Listening to the Other Gender

Sacred Integration of Feminine and Masculine Energies

Online Course for Women and Men

26 February 2025 to 30 July 2025

For the past two decades, Dr Mmatshilo Motsei has been facilitating healing circles for women and men separately. Dubbed Conversations with my womb, healing circles for women were meant to reveal the impact of women’s oppression and historical debasement of women’s bodies on their sense of self and wellbeing. For men, healing circles focused on involving men as part of the solution to violence against women.

What has emerged from these years of separate conversations with women and men is an existence of an impasse which is largely fueled by wounds we carry from the past. This can be a result of our cultural childhood conditioning or trauma sustained from families of origin. The fact that gendered violence is not simply biologically determined but culturally prescribed and the fact that systemic violence is also subjected to boys and men requires an expansive intervention that focuses on healing the wounded feminine and masculine energies.

For the first time in 2025, Afrika Ikalafe Pluriversity is offering a course that creates space for women and men to heal together and separately. Other than focusing on cultural prescriptions of gendered masculinities and femininities, one of the key highlights of the course is to heal mother and father wounds, with a specific focus on how such wounds impact on the girl and boy child, respectively.

During the six months, participants will engage in talking cure, creative writing, facilitated online healing sessions and African spiritual counselling. The course combines art, literature, psychology, divination and Indigenous African wisdom.

About The Course

How will this online course work?

The course combines bi-weekly webinars and online facilitation. Other than video lectures, the course will use African literature, creative writing, psychology and African spirituality as teaching, learning, and healing tools. The course also includes a review of one book a month.

In total, you will be asked to participate in 7 two-hour webinars which are spread out over 6 months. All the recordings will be available on the learning platform after each webinar. Because healing journeys can be daunting, you are encouraged to enroll with a fellow soul traveler who you will work with using co-counseling in between group webinars. Same sex co-counseling sessions will be held in between webinars plus one mixed gender group called Listening to the other gender at the end of each module. This journey works best if you enroll with a friend, colleague, or partner because this makes sharing easy. However, a stranger may end up being the best fellow soul traveler. If possible, you can facilitate your co-counseling sessions withyour soul traveler face to face. If not, you can use Google meet, Zoom or WhatsApp.
